Editorial Guidelines The ECHO Referencing System
The ECHO Publications Committee welcomes the submission of manuscripts for publication in this series.

Manuscripts are to be A4 size, double spaced in Microsoft Word, supplied as both a hard copy and an electronic copy on a 3˝ floppy or via the internet to echopublications@yahoo.co.uk.

Hard copies of photographs (slides preferably) and hard copies of line drawings, maps and plans must be supplied separately, not indented in the article, but with their positions marked in the text. Captions for the illustrations with full references must be supplied separately.

Manuscripts for the MONOGRAPH SERIES should be between 50,000 and 150,000 words long, whereas manuscripts for the OCCASIONAL PAPERS should be between 20,000 and 50,000 words long, papers for the ECHO DISCOVERER should be no longer than 1,400 words. Main articles for the ECHO EXPLORER can be up to 5,000 words in length, with subsidiary articles being 1,500 words long.

Papers submitted must be accompanied by a covering letter stating which issue it is intended for, and whether it is intended as a main or subsidiary article.

All manuscripts must be fully referenced in the Harvard style of referencing, no footnotes.

Manuscripts can either be in English or Arabic with an abstract in English for Arabic papers and Arabic for English papers. Help in providing this Abstract is available from the ECHO Publications Committee.
The Harvard referencing system is advocated for indicating works/material used in the essays. This system is made up piece of evidence taken from a consulted work. All references quoted or used for general reading must be included in the bibliography. Footnotes must be avoided if possible.

The bibliographic references should be in alphabetical order, and if the same author is quoted more than once, the earlier reference should come first. The following form should be used to indicate sources used:

Book:
Wilkinson, T. A. H. 1999. Early Dynastic Egypt. London: Routledge.

Conference paper or a collected work (book):
Robins, G. 1996. Dress, Undress, and the Representation of Fertility and Potency in New Kingdom Art, in N. B. Kampen (ed.), Sexuality in Ancient Art. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press: 29-39.

Article in a journal:
Spencer‚ J. & Spencer‚ P. 2000. The Delta Survey, Egyptian Archaeology 16: 25-7.

Thesis or dissertation that is unpublished:
Fletcher, A. J. 1995. Ancient Egyptian Hair: A Study in Style, Form and Function. Unpublished Ph.D. thesis, Manchester, Manchester University.

This system must be adhered to for all ECHO publications.
